mini vacay day 14 : thai massage & homemade tea

Tomorrow is Friday! How did that happen already?! I just got off the phone with my aunt Sara (one of my Mom’s sisters) and am going to get to see her tomorrow! She is working on a national commercial campaign and will be in and out of LA through mid-August. I can’t wait to stop by and see what she is up to. It will be my first look at this side of LA.

Last night I slept better than I have in a long while. I am starting to do more evening winding down type practices to support me resting well. Sleep is crucial. I am one of those people that functions best on 8-9 hours a night and lately I’ve been getting half that. Not good! I’ve been doing everything “right” to promote restful sleep and it’s been a struggle which is frustrating.

This morning I saw Sarah for Thai massage. She is beyond incredible. I always feel lighter and completely relaxed when I leave her house. I’ve been seeing her since late February and she has helped so much with my back and overall health. When I told her about the insomnia she said in Chinese medicine this time of year is very fire-y and full of energy and if we aren’t prepared for it insomnia can manifest. She made me feel at ease and like this was just part of transitioning into summer. She reminded me that it is my first summer in LA and the energy here right now is super intense thus she wasn’t surprised to hear I haven’t been sleeping well.

Sigh. Having a person that you trust confirm your experience is very healing. The conversation I had with my mom last night had a similar effect. I think talking to my mom helped me sleep better last night. It is all so connected. For my mini-vacay today I am brewing some relaxing and immunity boosting herbal tea. I love combining the herbs and flowers myself. I find the process very meditative and fun. Tonight I’ll be sipping chamomile, hibiscus, rose hips, and elderberry. It’s on the stove now!

My newsletter is very close to finished. I am going to read through it once more tomorrow for grammar (not my strongest area) and spelling and add the recipe photo. It’s almost 8pm now and I am going to start winding down for bed. Last night I was in bed at 8:30 – it felt great! I hope you all had a lovely day. More soon.
