wellness wednesdays: mend relationships

Hi there. I hope that you are happy and healthy today. Sunday night my boyfriend’s Dad had a stroke. Jason and his family have been spending long hours at the hospital and at this point his Dad remains stable, showing slight improvements each day. Watching their family move through this sudden and seemingly random occurrence has brought a tremendous amount of clarity to the fact the mending relationships is crucial.

This experience has shaken me up a little bit. My parents are on the other side of the country and it makes me think, gosh if something happened to them I couldn’t just get in my car and drive over to help. What calms me down though is knowing deep down that I have cleaned up my relationships with my folks. We have had so many talks and communicate on a regular basis. I know they know how grateful I am for how much they have done for me and the ways that they continue to support me.

Life is precious and can be altered in a the blink of an eye. I never want it to be too late to say I love you or I’m sorry or how can I help. I take inventory of my relationships on a regular basis because it’s important for me to not have regrets in them. I lived for many years not speaking up or reaching out because I was afraid. That just isn’t an option anymore. We get one life and it’s our responsibility to make it count.

If there is even a shred of doubt that you need to heal a relationship in your life I urge you to do it in a timely fashion. Living with a clear conscious knowing we have said our peace enables us to travel lighter and show up for the present, to fully be there for the ones that we cherish most.

//I took this photo the last time I was up in Ventura of Jason’s hands. The rainbows from the prisms in his kitchen were beautiful that morning.
